Photo retouching covers a wide variety of techniques. In the past airbrushing was used to remove blemishes and to smooth skin, very often making the subject look unnatural.

 Through computer enhancement, blemishes, moles, scars and pigmentations can be removed. Wrinkles can be softened or even vanish completely. Hair and tattoos can be made to disappear. Broken or missing teeth can be replaced. Unwanted elements of a photo can be taken out (i.e. people, objects, undesirable backgrounds).
